The Agile approach to Employment Physicals
During physical exams, an Agile clinician will check overall health and look for possible symptoms of illness or chronic conditions that may keep an employee or candidate from performing the duties of their job as specified by the employer. The tests performed will depend on the type of examination being conducted. We will review the candidate's medical health history and job information with them ans also usually check:
Preparing for a Work-Related Physical
Before a work-related physical or screening, employees should gather any paperwork from the employer as well as any medical information to bring to their visit so our providers review their medical history., They should bring:
Pre-Employment Examinations
If your company requires a physical or medical clearance for your employees, you most likely also require a pre-employment screening or physical exams for all new hires. This physical may be required by a local Department of Health (DOH) or by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
A pre-employment physical ensures that a new hire is physically capable of performing the duties that will be associated with their job. It will also determine a baseline for your employees at time of employment so you can keep track of changes in their health. This means that a certain metric is recorded at hiring so you can keep track of changes in their health.
Performance Evaluation
Once your company offered a job with essential physical requirements to a candidate, we will perform a pre-placement test, also known as a pre-employment physical. The exam will be customized to the specific responsibilities of the job and only screens for skills that are needed on a regular basis and protects your employees from potentially getting injured on the job.
About the Examination
During a pre-employment physical, candidate's may be asked to perform tasks related to skills that are critical for success in their job, such as lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling. To accurately test physical capabilities related to a specific job task, our clinicians replicate the physical demands associated with a particular job during the examination at our clinic.
Return to Work Examinations
Return-to-work physical examinations ensure that it’s safe for employees to go back to work after an injury or illness. IWhen an employee is not ready, this exam will help determine when it would be right for them to return. It reduces the risk of emplyees getting injured again.
The tests Agile administers during the exam helps physicians, case managers, and other health care professionals make safe return-to-work and vocational recommendations. RTW examinations identify safe working limits for an employee and give employers the data on how to modify a job after an injury or create a better workplace environment. The exam also documents any problems that may prevent them from returning to work or fully recovering.
About the Examination
Our examination is a comprehensive evaluation that documents an emplees capabilities to safely perform their job and return to normal functions. One of our clinicians will perform a physical evaluation and document their ability to work from a physical, medical, behavioral, and ergonomic perspective. Components of the exam may include assesment of:
These tests help the physician, or other appropriate health care providers to advise your employer in making safe return-to-work recommendations.
DOT Physcials
Commercial drivers are required to complete and pass a DOT physical to maintain a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) for their own safety and the public’s safety. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) mandates a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical for all commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers to determine if a driver is physically, mentally, and emotionally fit to operate a CMV.
When a driver arrives for their DOT physical, a certified medical examiner (CME) will cperform a physical examination that may include:
Upon passing the physical, the driver will be issued a DOT medical card by the examining physician.
Please note: without a valid DOT medical card, a driver's CDL will not be valid.
OSHA Examinations
As per OSHA Standards, Agile will assess each of your enrolled employees as part of an ongoing physical exam process known as medical surveillance, which determines if an employee meets the physical and medical requirements established by OSHA. Surveillance includes chemical exposures, hearing conservation, periodic checks and more. These examinations can be broken down into two categories: Surveillance and Periodic Examinations.
Medical Surveillance
Medical surveillance has a preventative focus and is an on-going observation of employee health for the purpose of prevention of illness or injury. This is carried out with identification of health abnormalities caused by job site exposures and risks. Surveillance aims at creating snapshots (through examinations) of an employee's health on a periodic basis to be used for a comparative basis to previous exams.
Periodic Examinations
Examinations are performed at our clinic and involve medical procedures (e.g. physical examinations, biological screenings, medical history) that are used to assess possible illnesses or abnormalities. Examinations are typically performed on an annual basis as part of an ongoing Medical Surveillance program.
Physical Ability Test
A physical ability test (PAT) consists of a series of tasks completed at our clinic. The examination replicates the physical demands of a job description as closely as possible, and evaluates the employee’s capacity to perform work-related physical tasks as needed. Employers often request PAT’s for employees before placing them in a physically demanding position. Companies also choose to require a PAT after an employee returns to work post-injury to determine if they are fit for duty.
The examination includes everyday physical tasks an employee might face while working. Because every industry and positions is unique, Agile designs custom PAT’s for each client. The test may include tasks like lifting weights, standing and sitting repeatedly, pushing wheelchairs, and other such work related tasks. That allows the test to evaluate an employee’s readiness to work in physically intensive environments.
Examinations typically feature test such as:
